Dispatchers play crucial role when lives are on the line

When people think of first responders, they often think of the people showing up to a scene with lights and sirens. They don’t always think of the 911 dispatchers who take those calls.

Nate Coffield with the Union County Sheriff’s Office hopes that public awareness of the job grows and continues, even as this week comes to a close.

April 13-19 was National Telecommunicators Appreciation Week, a time to highlight work done by dispatchers in the police and sheriff’s departments.
