Newest scam targets property sellers

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is working with local realtors to help stop scams targeting property owners in the area.

County law enforcement agents spoke to a realty group recently about an investigation into a series of fraudulent attempted land sales in Union County, Logan County and Delaware County that were stopped before the sales went through.

The sheriff’s office and Union County Prosecutor’s Office helped prevent almost $2 million from going into the hands of scammers.

“From what I learned initially was nobody was looking at this in the state, locally or nationally, and we felt that we owed it to our community to at least find out were the scammers and fraudsters in the United States…
