Levy error leaves UCBDD short on funds

An unintentional miscalculation in financial projections for the November 2024 levy will result in a $4 million shortfall for the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Superintendent Kara Brown said the issue stems from increases in costs that were not included in the projections for the levy when officials made the calculations a year ago.

“Medicaid waiver rates went up 30%, we knew that. We were making calculations on what we believed that would cost us, but that didn’t make it into our levy projections,” she said. “Essentially, we asked for 1.1 (mills) when we should’ve asked for 3.2.”
