Workers use downtime to make valentines for seniors

Associates at Honda’s East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP) sent out over 1,100 handmade cards to local senior centers in the community for Valentine’s Day.

In the wake of electronic vehicle adjustments and changes at the plant, around 500 production associates had some planned downtime in the month of January due to not being able to work on the floor. The Human Resources (HR) Department at the plant was asked to come up with some ideas for things associates could do.

Jennifer Rizzo with Human Resources at ELP said the decision to make the cards was a win-win; for associates who had the option to make cards during the downtime and for seniors at the local ca…
