NU’s girls and MS wrestling grapplers place at tournaments

North Union’s girls and middle school wrestling programs saw many of its own take the podium last weekend.

The High School girls team placed sixth out of 23 schools collecting 68 points during the Freddie Invite Girls tournament last Saturday.

Elyria took home the first-place team trophy scoring 148.5 points followed by Lexington (98) in second and Madison Comprehensive (90) in third.

NU’s 100-pounder Rylan Riffle was the highest placing Lady Cat. She finished second in her division falling to Reynoldsburg’s Aaliyah Dawson by pin in the second period.

Other placers included Addison Kirby (third, 140), Paisley Jordan (fourth, 135), Madison Goad (fourth, 145), Cameron Ludwig (fifth, 100) and Olivia Ehrick (fifth, 105).

The North Union Middle School girls program placed fourth at the Freddie Invite MS Girls tournament. The team scored 90 points.

Olentangy Orange placed first with 219.5 points followed by Teays Valley West (160) in second and Elgin (91) in third.

A trio of Lady Cats took home second place medals. Taking the runner up spot included Anistyn Wilson (92), Tristyn Cameron (142) and Lilly Bowers (170).

Placing third for the middle school girls included Adalee Hunt (116).

Placing fourth included Layla Wilds (122) and Emma Huddleston (170).

The NUMS boys program had grapplers take to the podium during the Newark Catholic Crossface MS Classic.

The Wildcats placed eighth as a team scoring 84 team points.

Licking Heights won the tournament scoring 222 points followed by Pickerington Lakeview (211) in second and Liberty (189) in third.

Austin Beany (205) was the highest placer for the team taking second in his division.

Jason McCoy took third at 104 pounds.

Placing fourth for the Wildcats included Brody Rote (116), Charles Oberdier (160), Braxton Griggs (172) and Gunner Tuck (245).
