Farmers around Union County are bracing for a difficult year. Drought conditions in Ohio, combined with low crop prices have created what Wayne Dellinger with the Ohio State University’s Union County Extension Office calls “kind of the perfect storm.”

“It’s adding a lot of stress to the farmers. Hopefully they have the means to weather the storm,” Dellinger said. Ethan Nicol, a farmer in Chuckery, near the Union-Madison County line hopes so, too.

“It is going to be a tough financial situation for the next year, maybe two years, for farmers around here,” Nicol said.
