May 29: As is the case on each recurring Memorial Day, there will this year be a tinge of sadness which does not come altogether from the solemnity of the day itself, but form the realization that some Memorial Day in the not distant future, none of the “boys in blue” will be here to take part in the services. This year the sparse ranks and the infirmity of many survivors will prevent the G. A. R. from being strongly represented at the services. The active work of planning a fitting memorial program has passed to younger shoulders, and the American Legion and The Legion Auxiliary now take the responsibility formerly assumed by the G. A. R. and the W. R. C.
