Auditor not a fan of proposed tax change

Union County Auditor Andrea Weaver has expressed concerns about proposed legislation that would change the way property tax in Ohio is assessed.

Last month, representatives Thomas Hall, R-Madison Twp. and Adam Bird of Clermont County introduced HB 187, known as the Ohio Homeowners Relief Act. The legislation would change the way properties are valued for tax purposes.

“As legislators frequently do, they respond to the loudest voices, but don’t always take or have the time to fully investigate the details of a particular issue,” Weaver said. “That is definitely the case with this ‘Ohio Homeowners Relief Act.’” Currently, state law mandates that …
